Mr Hegarty is one of Australia's mining icons, has been described as a “colourful” mining identity and ambassador for his industry. He has nearly 40 years experience in mining – former Managing Director of Rio Tinto Gold and Rio Tinto Asia. He founded the Oxiana Ltd Group which became OZ Minerals Ltd.
