2006 Asialink Dunlop Medal

 

“Miracle worker” Sister Mary Theodore to receive 2006 Asialink Dunlop Medal

Mrs Janette Howard will tonight present the 2006 Asialink Sir Edward “Weary” Dunlop Medal to Sister Mary Theodore OAM of MITHRA Foundation, who has spent over 50 years creating a centre providing teaching, occupational therapy and boarding for disabled children in Chennai, India.

The Asialink Dunlop Medal is presented to an Australian who has demonstrated long-term commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the region and improving Australia-Asia relations. Past Dunlop Asia Medalists include Mr Paul Kelly, Mr. Harold Clough AO OBE, Dr John Yu AC, The Hon Gough Whitlam AC QC and Mrs. Margaret Whitlam AO, Professor Stephen Fitzgerald AO and Professor John Pearn AM, RFD.

The Medal will be presented at an awards ceremony at the Park Hyatt Sydney, where Sister Theodore will discuss her life work with journalist Jennifer Byrne.

Three Asialink Dunlop Fellowships will also be awarded – Ben Saul and Hugo Moline, both from the University of Sydney, will work with Cambodia’s Royal University of Law and Economics and with Thailand’s Community Architects for Shelter and Environment respectively; and Jonathan Ehsani, a public health specialist, will undertake fieldwork with The Alliance for Safe Children in Thailand.
