After the Tsunami: What Now?

Wednesday 16 February 2005

In the first major public forum on the Boxing Day tsunami, prominent leaders here and abroad talk about their experiences in the areas so tragically hit by the disaster. They examine the issues now facing the giant aid effort and the role for Australia in South-East Asia. What are the implications for Australia's relations with the region?

The speakers: Commissioner Mick Keelty, Australian Federal Police; Dr Nono Anwar Makarim, Chair, Aksara Foundation; Rev Tim Costello, CEO World Vision. Also: The Hon Bruce Billson MP, Parliamentary Secretary, Foreign Affairs and Indonesian Ambassador Imron Cotan. Chaired by The Age Editor-in-Chief, Andrew Jaspan, with Asialink Chairman, Carrillo Gantner.

A reception and cultural performance, hosted by the Indonesian Consulate General will follow in the Main Hall.

All proceeds will go directly to reconstruction efforts through the Indonesian Red Cross and the National Coordinating Board for Disaster Relief.
