Corby, the Tsunami, and Depictions of Asia in Australia

Friday, 1 July 2005

Does Asia have an image problem? Do we give the region a fair hearing in Australia? Or are we too ready to feel fear and pity, rather than respect for our northern neighbours? Asialink invites you to hear eminent speakers discuss the role of the media, academia and the government in shaping our views of this dynamic region to our north.

Speakers:

  • Professor Tim Lindsey: Professor of Asian Law and Director of the Asian Law Centre, The University of Melbourne
  • Dr Krishna Sen: Professor of Asian Media, Dean, Humanities Research Centre, Curtin University
  • Mr Rowan Callick: Asia Pacific Editor, The Australian Financial Review

DATE: Tuesday 5 July 2005
TIME: 1.00pm to 2.00pm
WHERE: Yasuko Hiraoka Myer Room, Level 1, Sidney Myer Asia Centre, The University of Melbourne (corner of Swanston Street and Monash Road)
ENTRY: Free of Charge
