Artistic Residencies
Deep End, ABC Radio National
Deep End blurb:
Many young artists dream of getting an artist's residency somewhere overseas; a great chance to see the world, have your art more widely appreciated, as well as being challenged and stimulated by a different way of life and culture.
Today, AsiaLink is hosting a forum in Melbourne which looks at some of the issues facing Australian artists and their overseas hosts when they take up residencies.
AsiaLink has managed an artist's residency program since 1990. Over that time they've sent 400 Australian artists, writers, performers and arts managers to 18 countries in the region. Amanda Smith talks to one of the group's mentors, Barry Plews, and to an artist who recently completed a residence in Indonesia, Danius Kesminas.
