Diplomatic Conclusions - The Time for Vietnam Featuring His Excellency Mr. Thanh, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

Friday, 26 May 2006

Recently at Asialink His Excellency Mr. Thanh Tan Nguyen, Vietnam's Ambassador to Australia, discussed the rapid pace of reform in Vietnam. Mr Thanh Tan Nguyen said that Vietnam's low costs, diligent workforce, improving infrastructure, deregulating economy and growing list of investment incentives have attracted foreign direct investment.

He listed the objectives for continued economic reform in Vietnam, as outlined by the recent 10th National Congress. These objectives included the 'acceleration of economic growth, … speeding up industrialisation and gradually forming a knowledge-based economy'. He hoped that this would 'turn Vietnam into an industrial economy by 2020'.

This event was a collaboration between Asialink and the Department of Political Science, University of Melbourne.
