Education in a Post-Tsunami Sri Lanka

Friday, 07 April 2006

The Sri Lankan community in Melbourne turned out in force to hear The Hon. Susila Premajayantha, Minister for Education, Sri Lanka speak on Education Reform in a Post-Tsunami Sri Lanka.

The 2005 Boxing Day Tsunami impacted 182 schools in 11 districts and the Minister took the audience through scenes of devastation as well as rebuilding. The Minister outlined Sri Lanka's proposed education vision of reaching excellence in global society through competent citizens who share the Sri Lanka identity and suggested to the audience that Sri Lanka would very much welcome some of the expertise of the audience.
