In Conversation with Greg Sheridan,
Foreign Editor, The Australian

Thursday, 4 May 2006

In a business networking event hosted by Freehills, Greg Sheridan drew on years of experience as correspondent and Foreign Editor for The Australian to comment on the great powers of Asia. Sheridan identified this as the most dynamic period in the growth of the region from which a new order will emerge: India as a pole of power, whose success/failure would impact on the prestige of Asia; Indonesia whose current government, despite setbacks, was the one which will most understand Australia and its standing in the region; the United States whose immigration policies will result in the World's youngest population by 2050 - younger even than China; Japan whose role as an economic power will continue with an increasing military presence and finally, a China seeking to be the No. 1 indigenous power in the Region.
