Soul of Islam Series #2 - Movers and Shakers: Reconstucting Islam in Contemporary Muslim Thought

Soul of Islam Series
Number Two - Movers and Shakers:
Reconstructing Islam in Contemporary Muslim Thought

Monday, 31 July 2006

Australian Education Foundation and the Islamic Council of Victoria, with Asialink, continued its Soul of Islam Lecture Series with a presentation by Ms Anisa Buckley titled Movers and Shakers - Reconstructing Islam in Contemporary Muslim Thought.

More than fifty people heard Ms Buckley, a Director of the Islamic Foundation Australia, speak about the lives and personalities of key figures across the globe who have, or are, shaping Muslim thought.

Ms Buckley said that throughout time, influential and compelling individuals have inspired Muslim political and ideological movements, and that these leaders have reacted to the specific political situations of their time, resulting in unique developments across communities. She noted that the legal and cultural traditions of the Muslim world are as varied as the individuals who have inspired them.

Anisa Buckley is also a PhD Candidate in Islamic Studies and consultant with LB International Consultants.
