The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra at Asialink

Friday, 26 May 2006

Select members of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra treated a captivated audience to a unique performance at Asialink last May. In a masterful display of their command of their instruments, six section leaders introduced the audience to the main instruments in a Chinese orchestra and proceeded to play three extracts from recent performances, two traditional pieces and one modern.

Founded in 1977 the Orchestra is Hong Kong's only professional Chinese orchestra. Under Artistic Director Yan Huichang's baton, the 85-member Orchestra has undertaken the promoting of Chinese music as its mission. Its repertoire includes both traditional folk music and contemporary full-scale works.
