Monday, 15 May 2006
One of China's most popular and well-known newsreaders, Mr Rui Chenggang, spoke at Asialink on the 15th of May.
Chenggang may only be 29 but he is one of the new faces of Chinese media - accomplished and articulate. As a producer and newsreader on CCTV's business and international channel, he is a familiar face to many in the region.
He believes that China has a role to play on the world stage and that western portrayals of China are at times unfair. He contrasted the covers of recent Time and Newsweek magazines showing India as trendy and forward looking whilst China was portrayed as "Mao in a Louis Vuitton jacket".
Rui has interviewed world business, government and economic leaders and was in turn interviewed by an Asialink audience which also included a small but ardent fan club.
