Update Thailand with Mr. Kavi Chongkittavorn, Executive Editor of Thailand's The Nation

Thursday, 8 June 2006

In Asialink's continuing media series, Mr. Kavi Chongkittavorn, the passionate Executive Editor of The Nation spoke on the state of politics, and of the role of the media, in Thailand.

In a colourful presentation Mr Chongkittavorn demonstrated how the Thaksin government worked to undermine the local media and he outlined the lengths journalists had gone through to adequately present a fair and balanced national news coverage.

Mr. Chongkittavorn is considered an advocate of "progressive" media in Thailand. The Nation is one of Thailand's leading English language daily newspapers and a strong advocate for reform under the Thaksin government.

Mr. Chongkittavorn's previous positions of Special Assistant to the Secretary General of ASEAN and President of the Reporters Association of Thailand makes Mr. Chongkittavorn in an ideal spokesperson of regional architecture as well as Australia's relationship with Thailand.
