Abundant Australia - Highlights from the 11th Venice Architecture Biennale
CREATIVE DIRECTORS: Neil Durbach, Vince Frost, Wendy Lewin, Kerstin Thompson, Gary Warner.
Asialink in partnership with the Australian Institute of Architects presents Abundant Australia: highlights from the 11th Venice Architecture Biennale, an exhibition featuring over 140 architectural models from prominent Australian architects.
The models selected were recently presented at the internationally acclaimed Venice architecture exhibition in the Australian Pavilion.
Abundant Australia reveals a diverse range of styles and concepts key to Australian architecture and is testament to the richness and capacity of both Australia’s current architectural practice and its formative history. This exhibition explores the astonishing capacity Australian architects have in blending new influences, acknowledging dramatic landscapes and Australia’s unique multicultural society: the breadth and depth of current architectural achievements belies the youth of Australia’s built history. Each model captures the particularities of the architect’s distinct practice.
In presenting Abundant Australia, Asialink is committed to fostering a greater understanding of Australian architectural practice on an international scale. This exhibition will build stronger links between Australian and Asian architects, students, design curators and festival presenters. By its very nature, this exhibition provides an opportunity for a public forum focusing on issues of contemporary architecture and the barriers that may exist in developing collaborative practices at an international level.
Abundant Australia is a unique exhibition that reflects our diverse landscape, occupied by cities, towns, deserts and creative individuals determined to build a better nation.
