Why:
- not to lose knowledge: 'extinction prevention'

What:
- awareness of different types of discourse in different cultures including issues of 'traditional' and 'contemporary'
- awareness of internal/external knowledge
- awareness of different foci and impetus for archives
- complex relationship of 'active' artist and 'passive' archivist
- difference of transmission of knowledge by experience compared with documentation
- complexity of 'tradition' - it is alive when alive and changing
- very few publications on Asian culture in Australian public collections

- identify the audience: youth obviously important

- issues of funding and time, including funds for artists' own archives
