Tokyo Forum 2006
Two forums are included in the Initiative: one taking place in Japan and one in Australia. The aim is to encourage and enable key decision-makers working in the contemporary visual arts from Australia and Japan to talk together in a one to two day forums on issues of interest to both and to make recommendations for future action between the two countries.
The first forum took place in Tokyo, at the National Art Center in late September 2006 and the second is planned for 2008. In Tokyo each delegate presented a short overview of the current situation of contemporary visual arts in each place, followed by discussion of issues of concern to both sides, areas of mutual interest, and potential for future programs. A half day public presentation and discussion followed the Tokyo forum, attended by 250 people. Anna Waldmann, Hossein Valamanesh and Margo Neale spoke on Australian art issues, and Shihoko Iida, Kimioi Tsuchiya and Fram Kitagawa on Japanese issues.
