The Asia Education Foundation (AEF) is Australia's leading organisation dedicated to advocating and supporting Asia literacy in Australian primary and secondary schools.
The mission of the AEF is to equip every young Australian for the 21stcentury by ensuring that they gain knowledge, skills and understandings of the countries and cultures of Asia through their schooling.
The AEF is a foundation of Asialink at the University of Melbourne, in partnership with Education Services Australia and receives core funding from the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
The AEF:
- Leads and supports the development of 21st century world-class education that is Asia literate
- Advocates for Asia literacy to influence policy and curriculum nationally
- Collaborates with education systems and jurisdictions to achieve Asia literacy
- Mobilises and builds alliances to raise demand for Asia literacy
- Connects and engages educators to develop Asia literate students
- Supports and challenges schools to embed Asia literacy in the curriculum
- Initiates new projects and research to expand Asia literacy programs.
- The emerging Australian Curriculum
- The Business Alliance for Asia Literacy comprising major corporations and peak organisations representing 400,000 Australian companies
- The Education Alliance for Asia Literacy comprising 24 national organisations representing education, business and community sectors
The AEF Advisory Board includes core education stakeholders from around Australia.
