Inaugural Leaders Program Alumni Award

Alumni of the Year 2009

We are thrilled to announce that Dorjee Sun, and Inspector Cath Cole and Dr Kate Armstrong for CLAN (Caring and Living as Neighbours), are our Inaugural Alumni of the Year

Dorjee Sun was chosen by our panel for his pioneering environmental work, especially his success in organising the world’s first independently audited avoided deforestation carbon transaction. Dorjee was named as one of Time magazine’s Environmental Heroes for 2009. Read about Dorjee and his work.

Inspector Cath Cole and Dr Kate Armstrong for CLAN (Caring and Living as Neighbours) were chosen for their tireless work with CLAN, an NGO founded by Kate in 2004. Cath and Kate began working together for CLAN after meeting as participants in the 2007 Leaders Program, Sydney group. CLAN aims to assist children with chronic medical conditions in resource-poor countries enjoy the highest quality of life possible. Cath and Kate have worked to develop the organisation’s status, reach and initiatives. Find out more about CLAN.

Presentation of awards will take place at the Asialink Chairman’s Dinner in Melbourne, December 2009. Dorjee Sun and Dr Kate Armstrong for CLAN will also be participating in the Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit, which will take place on November 20-22nd  2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Read more.

CLAN has been named as one of the five finalists in the Asia Society’s Asia 21 Public Service Award. This is a huge achievement in this closely contested international competition. Read more

Are you an Alumnus of the Asialink Leaders Program?

Through the Alumni of the Year Award, Asialink seeks to recognise the person who has done the most to further Australia – Asia relations since taking part in the Program. Whether it be by implementing a new initiative or strengthening relations through an existing endeavour, the Award winner will have demonstrated a commitment to growing Australia-Asia relations and be an advocate for developing Australia-Asia engagement.
