Imran K. Lum is a PhD candidate in Islamic Banking at the Asia Institute, The University of Melbourne. He completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Adelaide in Health Science and a Master of Arts degree in Islamic Studies at The University of New England on: ‘Ijtihad: The Construction and De-construction of Religious Authority’. His current doctoral thesis is on: ‘The Demand for Islamic Banking in Australia and the UK: A Study of the Approaches to Riba and the Religious, Economic and Social Factors Influencing Bank Selection Criteria of Australian and British Muslims.’
Imran was a Visiting Researcher at King's College, University of London where he researched the market for Islamic banking in the UK. Currently he is a Research Assistant with the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Islam (CSCI) and a Director of Islamic Foundation Australia Inc., an organisation dedicated to providing programs and services for the Muslim community and facilitating goodwill between Muslims and the wider Australian society.
Imran also has a passion for languages, travel, fishing and food.
