y

Michael was born in Bombay, India and migrated to Australia with his family at a young age. After being educated in the public school system Michael completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree at Deakin University, graduating as Alfred Deakin Medallist.  Michael has a particular passion for development and advocacy, which he attributes to his early childhood spend in Madras.

He has spent periods working as a refugee educator, and as a Youth Ambassador for Development in Southern Vietnam, working with a number of indigenous NGOs. Michael has previously been appointed as a Research and Business Development Officer with Can Tho University. He is near completion of a Masters in Arts (International Justice) at Melbourne University and the Graduate Diploma in International and Community Development at Deakin University.

Michael manages a charitable entity known as ‘Nexus’ that supports social entrepreneurship and social change in the developing world. He finds this work immensely rewarding. He is in pursuit of a greater understanding of ‘servant leadership’, and at twenty five he understands he has a great deal to learn. He possesses a fervent desire to further Asia-Australia relations.

Presently, Michael is an Associate Lecturer in Finance and Ethics at Deakin University. He is currently conducting collaborative research into refugee communities in Victoria, theories of cosmopolitan justice, and game theoretic frameworks in political theory. He has previously been employed in analyst roles with the Ford Motor Company of Australia, PwC, and KordaMentha. While in the insolvency sector Michael was appointed to Lewingtons Transport and Lincraft. Michael has completed consulting appointments with Linfox and Becton.

Michael enjoys Rhythm and Blues music and Australian Rules football (though he is hoping for a little more success for his beloved Hawks), and is excited about his next trip to Vietnam and to Sri Lanka at the end of the year.
