Mr Peter Block

Mr Peter Block

Senior Assoicate
Freehills

Peter is currently working as a Melbourne based lawyer with the Australian law firm Freehills.  He works in the in the Projects/Project Finance department and has extensive experience acting for Governments, sponsors and financiers in the development and financing of green-field energy and infrastructure projects (including public private partnerships), mergers and acquisitions and project restructurings.

After working as a lawyer in Melbourne for a couple of years, Peter left Australia in 1993 to travel and work overseas.  Little did he know that his journey would last approximately 13 years.  After travelling overland through Asia, Europe, USA, Central and South America and short of funds, Peter returned to work in Melbourne in 1996.  Having particularly enjoyed his travel through Asia, Peter soon secured a job working for a major Australian law firm in Hanoi.  Peter spent 5 years in Vietnam advising foreign investors on all issues relating to foreign investment in Vietnam.  Projects on which he advised included the development of essential infrastructure such as power plants, oil and gas fields and pipelines, cement and glass plants, ports and telecommunications systems.  Being resident in Asia gave Peter the opportunity to travel through Asia extensively.

Peter transferred to London in 2001 where he worked for a large international law firm in its Energy and Infrastructure department.  During the next 5 years, Peter worked in the UK, Europe and Africa on public private partnerships projects and developing and financing energy and infrastructure projects.  Areas in which he advised included energy, satellite communications, roads and airports.

Peter returned to Melbourne to work for Freehills in 2006.  He maintains his links with Asia by advising Australian firms with interests in investing in Asia and last year spent approximately 4 months in Seoul, South Korea.

Peter enjoys tennis, golf and swimming and reading fiction.
