Ms Rebecca Nelson

Rebecca Nelson

Lawyer
Blake Dawson Waldron Lawyers

Rebecca Nelson works in the environmental law department of Blake Dawson Waldron, a national law firm with international offices in China and Papua New Guinea, and an affiliated office in Indonesia.  She also co-manages a farming business in Central Victoria, producing goat meat for the domestic and Asian markets.  She previously worked for 4 years as a research assistant in environmental and water law at the University of Melbourne.

A passion for travel and for the technical and legal intricacies of environmental issues has led her to Lund in Sweden to study climate change in the context of sustainable development; to the U.S. Congress in Washington D.C. to work on environmental and human rights issues in Asia; and to travel in the remote western regions of China.

Her initial interest in Asia grew from studying Mandarin in high school and frequent trips to Hong Kong to visit family.  Recently she stoked this interest with intensive study of Mandarin at the Beijing Language and Culture University.  She intends to cultivate her knowledge of Asia with honeymoon adventures through the "stans" of Central Asia.

Rebecca holds Honours degrees in Law (with a focus on environmental, Chinese and international law) and Environmental Engineering, and a Diploma in Modern Languages in German all from the University of Melbourne.  When not chasing goats on the farm or leading an inner-city Guides group, she keeps busy by writing journal articles on environmental law.  Her publications include articles in the Environmental and Planning Law Journal, the Melbourne Journal of International Law and the Asian-Pacific Law and Policy Journal.
