Ms Kate Cahill

Senior Associate
Freehills

Kate is a Senior Associate at Freehills in Sydney. She started her legal career as a banking and finance lawyer, but her practice now largely consists of projects and infrastructure work following a detour into project finance. Kate has worked on project and corporate financings and infrastructure projects across a number of industries including oil and gas, power, resources, publishing, transport and water. A highlight of her career to date was 2 years spent in the projects group of Allen & Overy in London.

Increasingly Kate’s work is in the Asia region - moving offshore with a variety of Australian companies who are expanding their presence in the region, including Singapore, Indonesia and South Korea.

Kate graduated from the University of New South Wales with a degree in commerce (majoring in marketing) and a degree in law. She also has a graduate diploma in applied finance and investment (corporate finance) from the Securities Institute of Australia. Immediately following graduation from university Kate spent one year in the New South Wales Court of Appeal working as a tipstaff (associate) to Mr Justice Sheller. Her exposure to life in the court system left her with a deep-seated respect for the rule of law and the often unseen and unappreciated role which it plays in an harmonious democratic society.
