Ms Caitlin Keating
Senior Policy Adviser
Resources & Infrastructure
Department of Premier and Cabinet
Caitlin's interest in international relations, languages and culture increased exponentially after she went to Germany on student exchange as a teenager. This led her to study a combined degree in Arts and Commerce (majoring in Japanese, German and Economics), after which she spent time working in the UK for international investment bank, Credit Suisse First Boston. Caitlin then returned to Melbourne to complete an Honours year in Economics before undertaking the Graduate Program with the Victorian Public Service. She then worked with the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance before getting the itch to head overseas again.
For something completely different, Caitlin spent 2 years teaching at a high school in Japan's Toyama prefecture, where she honed her japanese language, chopsticks and snowboarding skills and increased her passion for Asia. On return to Melbourne, Caitlin worked with the newly established Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission, before joining her current employer, the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) in 2005. In 2007, Caitlin moved to DPC's Resources and Infrastructure Branch, where she is the Team Leader, Infrastructure. As part of her role, she manages a team of policy officers that provide advice to the Premier and Cabinet on all things transport (trains, trams, buses, ports, major projects etc.). In her spare time, Caitlin loves to travel and has visited many parts of Asia, as well as spending extended periods in Europe, Northern and Central America.
