Jonathan Darby
Mr Jonathan Darby
Manager, International
Government Branch
Department of Premier and Cabinet
Born in Caerfyrddin, West Wales, a town variously described as 'unremarkable' and 'hardly thrilling', Jonathan has sought exhilarating places ever since.
After studying law at the University of Wales, Cardiff, Jonathan worked for a seafarers' welfare agency in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. From employment law it was a natural segue into Human Resources. Jonathan then spent five years in HR and customer services management for Orange and a P&O company, both in Bristol, UK.
Wanting to return to overseas work, onathan joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and spent three years in London, working on EU armament procurement policy and UK/US relations.
In 2002 he was posted to Chicago, as Deputy Consul General. After four and a half excellent years in the US, Jonathan and his Australian partner returned 'home' to Australia. He has held legal policy roles with the Departments of Human Services and Primary Industries and has most recently been manager of the International Unit in the Department of Premier and Cabinet since April 2008.
