Simon Westaway is the Head of Corporate Relations at Jetstar Airways. In this senior executive role since early 2004 he has overseen the low fare carrier’s Corporate Affairs and is the airline’s public spokesman.
The current implementation of a pan Asian network supported by a strong media relations strategy spanning across numerous Asian markets remains one of a number of high profile activities. Highlights in the past twelve months include the successful commercial launch of Jetstar Pacific in Vietnam (April 2008) and the announcement of a close alignment of Singapore based Jetstar Asia and Valuair with Jetstar’s Australian operations.
Simon was previously the Manager of Corporate Affairs for the regional airline, Impulse, where he held that position for two years until September 2001. As Impulse became part of the Qantas Group, Simon joined Australia’s largest private health insurer, Medibank Private, in November 2001 where he headed Government Relations before becoming its Manager of Corporate Affairs from October 2002. Prior to these roles, Simon held a number of positions as an appointed staff member to both Federal and State parliamentarians and was head researcher with the NSW Liberal Party State Secretariat between October 1994 and April 2006.
Simon holds a Bachelor of Communications from the University of Newcastle. He is a Director of the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania and an inaugural Steering Committee member for the Qantas Foundation.
