Alexandra has honours degrees in Indonesian Studies and Law and is able to draw on both sets of skills in her current role as Legal Specialist at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, where she has worked since 2007. 

Since commencing Indonesian language studies at university in 1996, Alexandra has maintained a strong interest in Indonesia and Asia more broadly. Alexandra spent six months in 1999 at Universitas Muhammadiyah in East Java undertaking research for her Indonesian Honours thesis, and was selected to participate in the Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program in 2000-01. She practised for two years at a corporate law firm in Melbourne, and before commencing with DFAT was Associate to a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia. 

Alexandra also worked as a researcher/trainer at the Centre for the Study of Human Rights in Colombo, Sri Lanka, as an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development in 2005-06.
