"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" (George Orwell). This quote from George Orwell’s Animal Farm is all too indicative of the world’s situation today. The gap between rich and poor, between the world’s various religions and cultures and the differences between countries throughout the world appears to be widening. These inequalities is one reason why I have chosen to participate in the Australian-Asia New Leaders Program so as to ultimately help improve the situation of those who are unable to express their views and have no voice in a world filled with inequalities

I am a qualified physiotherapist having graduated from the University of Sydney in 1997. As an undergraduate student I had the opportunity to take part in Operation India, an international program where students work in Indian villages teaching basic rehabilitative therapy skills to local health workers. Since that time I have twice been a supervisor to Australian and Canadian students participating in the program. I was eager to pursue further studies and completed a Master of International Public Health at the University of Sydney last year.

I very much look forward to meeting with other like-minded people throughout this course and hope that we can contribute in some way to making a more equal world.
