District Agronomist, NSW Agriculture

Alex grew up on a farm in Central NSW. She is currently working with NSW Agriculture in the Riverina and is positioned as the District Agronomist for Deniliquin, in southwest NSW. She oversees the production and development of all agricultural commodities from the district, specialising in the Irrigated Rice based system.

Graduating from the University of New England with a bachelor of Rural Science, Alex had already travelled and lived abroad acquiring her first real experience in dealing within a different cultural context. After university she travelled throughout South East Asia and this was the pretext for developing her interests in the cultural, social, economic and political decision processes in Asia.

In the year 2000, she worked in an Empowerment of Women project conducting agricultural aid work in the Republic of the Maldives. In 2002 she facilitated in an international workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, focused on 'Participatory Methods in Poverty Reduction'. Alex's aim is to further the understanding of sustainable rural development within Asia and Australia and to enhance the relationship and knowledge exchange between our rural cultures.

Alex is always up for a challenge, loves sport, outdoor life and travel.
