Alan has been professionally employed with the MFB for over 25 years, currently fulfilling the role of Executive Manager for the Western Zone (WZ), a region encompassing 13 fire stations and 350 firefighters. Beginning as a recruit firefighter, he progressed to attain his current status as ACFO (Acting Chief Fire Officer). His primary responsibility is the community's safety including preparedness and risk management in relation to major hazards facilities, commercial and industrial components unique to the Western Region.

Alan has nurtured initiatives addressing the broader NESB (Non English Speaking Backgrounds) and CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) communities, recently receiving State Government award recognition. Strengthening bonds with local government and major stakeholders, sharing resources has created a platform from which home fire safety and fire awareness messages have been effectively communicated.

Alan's prior achievements include a two year appointment consulting on the modelling of a Fire Cover strategy for Victoria, within the Department of Justice.
