Alex Rickarby
Mr Alex Rickarby
Senior Associate
Middletons Lawyers
The majority of Alex's life has been spent in the bayside suburbs of Melbourne.
In 1990, he commenced a dual Arts/Law degree at Monash University and completed his studies in 1994. During the summer break between his third and fourth year of university, he went on an 8-week trip to America, the UK and Europe. He had the time of his life.
Following the completion of his studies, Alex headed for the hills and completed his Articles of Clerkship at a small firm in Traralgon, in country Victoria. At the conclusion of that year he was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria as a practising barrister and solicitor.
Following Alex's stint in the country, he made a difficult decision to leave the firm with whom he had completed his articles. Alex commenced employment as a first year solicitor with Middletons Lawyers in Melbourne. He commenced work in the Insurance and Commercial Litigation departments and now some 8 years on, He is a Senior Associate of the firm. In his role as a litigator, he has been involved in a range of disputes, the most noteworthy of which relates to the Longford Class Action, brought by gas users against Esso in respect of the Longford gas explosion and the subsequent curtailment of gas in September 1998.
From a personal perspective, he is married to Liza and has a 21-month old son Harrison who is a source of constant enjoyment and amusement for Liza and himself. Alex has a keen interest in all types of sport. He played cricket and football at school only to then pursue an inglorious football career in the Victorian Amateurs. Although he is not prepared to concede that his career is over, work and family commitments have forced him to take a break from football. To stay fit, he can be seen jogging very slowly along the foreshore of Black Rock on a Saturday and Sunday morning most weekends.
