Mona Elsawi migrated to Australia with her family, in August 1990 at the age of 15. After learning English and finishing high school, she completed her Bachelor of Science with a double major in Computer Science and Statistics in 1998. Mona has been working in the market research industry in various roles. She is currently working in the Information Services Department at Research International as a Data Analyst.

Mona has a passion for community work and so she is heavily involved in the Australian Muslim community. Currently, she fills the roles of National Treasurer of the Islamic Awareness Education, and Vice President of the Australian Council of Women's Affairs. Mona's volunteer work includes presenting some radio programs on the local community radio station, QK Radio, as well as being a trainer with Train The Trainers group which runs educational courses that aim at bridging the cultural and religious gap found within the Australian society.
