Mr Jonathan Nicholas

Content Coordinator - Reach Out!
Inspire Foundation

Jonathan's permanent role is Director of Programs for the Inspire Foundation, which is an Australian Foundation that creates opportunities for young people to help themselves and others. Over that time Jonathan has been particularly involved in the Foundation's main program Reach Out!. He has also had the opportunity in the last three years to undertake work in Asia and Australia to promote children's rights.

Jonathan's background is in developmental psychology and suicide prevention research. He has always had a passion for children and young people and working in areas that enable people to improve their own lives and the lives of others. His work at Inspire and in the area of human rights enables him to do this in different ways and has provided him with wonderful experiences.

Jonathan became involved in working in Aisa largely by accident. Three years ago he was offered the opportunity to bid for a AusAid project to conduct training in Children's Rights for professionals across Indonesia. The ten workshops that have occurred since have been a wonderful learning experience for him, professionally and personally. Jonathan also co-authored a submission for the NSW Commission for Children and young people to the HREOC inquiry into children living in immigration detention. A disturbing experience that made him rethink many of the assumptions he had about the values of Australia. Jonathan's current project is co-authoring a situation analysis for women and children in Cambodia for UNICEF.
