For almost 12 years Kathy Richards has been active in promoting human rights, starting an Amnesty International Australia (AIA) group at high school. Kathy worked as a volunteer, Merchandise Coordinator and finally Campaign Coordinator for AIA. Kathy is currently the Human Rights and Governance Policy Officer for the Australian Council for Overseas Aid. This Canberra-based position involves research, policy development, advocacy and training on human rights and good governance in development.
Kathy has a Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry Class 1 Hons) and is completing a Master of Arts in International Relations and Asian Society Studies. Areas of interest include Thailand, Malaysia and China, together with regional issues of migration, trafficking and corruption. With the support of Transparency International, Kathy presented research on corruption to the International Anti-Corruption Conference in Korea in 2003 and is an active member of Transparency International Australia.
In between work and studies Kathy has travelled extensively through Europe, Central America and Asia.
