Shane Petersen
Mr Shane Petersen
GBST Holdings Pty. Ltd.
I graduated from the Queensland University of Technology in 1994, with a degree in both Electronic Engineering and Information Technology.
The first few years of my working career involved designing and building systems for the Stockbroking industry, connecting their back office systems to the ASX’s CHESS system.
In 1998 I moved to London with my wife and contracted to a large database company; building software and frameworks used in the manufacturing and pharmaceuticals industries. I was involved in pre-sales activities and presented new product features at user conferences.
I am currently employed by GBST Holdings Pty Ltd as a Systems Architect. This role involves business analysis, product design, systems integration and technology change. My product focus is on Advisory and Wealth Management tools.
I am also a member of Amnesty International (AI), volunteering at events held by both AI and Oxfam CAA (Community Aid Abroad). Last year I assisted with AI’s Pacific conference on Human Rights held in Queensland. Separately I have travelled in America, Canada, Italy, Greece, Africa, Japan and Vanuatu.
Recently I have been involved with companies in Singapore and India to bring a new product to the Australian market. This work has seen me travel regularly to Sydney from my Brisbane base over the past 12 months. This time has been particularly challenging for me as I forge a new working relationship with the overseas development team; and mix both professionally and socially.
Participation in the 2005 Asialink Leadership program is timely in terms of the personal and professional development opportunities. In particular I would like to improve my leadership skills; and look to further GBST’s business network and ultimately strengthen its initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region.
