Anna Harvie works for Intrepid Travel, a 'Small-Group Adventure' travel company based in Melbourne, which has been running tours in Asia for 16 years. The company has a large focus is 'Responsible Travel', which means travelling in a way that both respects and benefits local people, their culture and the environment.
She is the Assistant Operations Manager for the North Asia region, which encompasses China, Tibet, Japan and Russia, and is responsible for over 50 leaders and the smooth-running of some 35 different trips in the region.
She started with Intrepid as a tour leader in Indochina, and has worked in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and China.
Growing up on Kangaroo Island (South Australia) she spent several years involved in the tourism industry working for the National Parks and Wildlife Service, and through family was also involved in the initial trade of marron and yabbies to Japan and Hong Kong.
She has an Honours Degree in International Politics from Adelaide University, having focused on Asian studies and political economics, and wrote a thesis looking at the development of the Australian Refugee System and its impact on our Asian neighbours.
She has spent the last 6 years living and travelling in Asia - a majority of this time spent in South Korea, and is interested in grass-roots development in smaller communities, and the positive impacts people can have as travellers in Asian countries.
