Dr Carolyn O'Brien
International Relations Officer
The University of Melbourne
Carolyn O'Brien works in the International Relations Office at the University of Melbourne, where she is responsible for the University's formal linkages for international academic cooperation and exchange, and advises on the University's international relations.
Carolyn completed her undergraduate degree in the UK and following extensive travel in SE Asia, migrated to Australia in 1985. After 5 years in marketing at IBM Melbourne, she returned to postgraduate study in Australia, and during the 1990s taught in the Departments of Political Science at Monash and Melbourne Universities, specialising in comparative European politics and the European Union. She also completed a doctorate on contemporary French politics in 2002. She hopes that the Asialink Leadship Program will enable her to develop Asia skills and knowledge to complement her European expertise.
On a personal note, she enjoys: singing with the Melbourne Chorale; travelling; new ideas and stimulating discussion!
