Kate Hastings
Mrs Kate Hastings
Manager, International
Department of Premier and Cabinet
English-born, Kate Hastings has always had an interest in other countries and foreign affairs. After an Undergraduate degree in Modern European Studies (German, French and Economics) she joined the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office because it gave her the opportunity to work overseas. She enjoyed postings to Turkey and Fiji, where she provided policy advice on bilateral and multilateral relations, and learnt to speak new languages.
She moved to Melbourne in 1999 to marry her Victorian partner, who she met in Fiji. She joined the Department of Premier and Cabinet in 2001 and has worked in a range of policy adviser and program management positions. For the past 12 months she has been in the role of Manager, International, with responsibility for managing and providing advice on the Premier's overseas interests, including his overseas travel, incoming international visitors, Victoria's sister-state relationships (all of which are with equivalent states in Asian countries) and international treaties.
She has just completed an Executive Masters in Public Administration with the Australian New Zealand School of Government.
Interests outside work include reading, travel (of course) and sport (mainly now watching as old age sets in).
