Michelle Isles is a professional communicator and works to build and strengthen partnerships through political and promotional support.
Michelle has worked with ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) since 2004 and supports over 100 local authorities within Australia and New Zealand to build their capacity to achieve tangible outcomes in sustainability.
ICLEI was launched at the United Nations in 1999 and now supports over 475 members in 60 countries. In 2006, ICLEI's Oceania Secretariat will have an increasing focus on Australasia. Michelle's role will facilitate partnership development between ICLEI members to work on practical sustainability initiatives. This approach will build on existing relationships with ICLEI offices and local authority members of ICLEI in India, Korea, Japan the Philippines, Indonesia and China.
Michelle's interest in Asian cities began from a young age through her experiences of living and travelling in the region. Michelle has worked on community aid and environmental education programs In Indonesia and Nepal and has established business incubator models within these countries. Michelle holds a degree in Business Commerce and Communications and is trained in environmental consulting, having worked with clients in state government, education and industry to establish behavioural change programs. Michelle has also worked in marketing and in radio production.
Michelle serves on several non-government organisation advisory boards, she is a council member of the Sustainable Living Foundation and the Public Relations Institute of Victoria.
Michelle also learns and teaches dance and in 2006 hopes to learn another language and pursue her interest in paragliding.
